Xterra Winter Park! (view of the site)

This is the same race as Xterra Snow Mtn Ranch, with a new name.  I had won the previous two years, so I was hoping to make it 3 for 3.  It was delayed two weeks due to unsafe conditions, but last weekend was perfect.  Instead of camping the night before, I decided to drive since Tina had friends in town and would not be attending.  I managed to get Matt, (one of Tina's friends) to drive with me... thank goodness.

The race started out normally, with a good lead out of the water, and nobody near me on the bike for the beginning.  As in the last two years, another pro snuck up on me without warning.  I raced with him (Thomas Spannring) for a bit before we got to the final of the long climb.  I raced down after him on the descent and just when the trail opened up... I heard a crunch and my face hit the dirt.  The next thing I knew, I was on my back with my bike flying over me.... and it HURT!  I looked around and saw no trees near me so I knew I was not injured badly, and the paramedics were on my quickly.  I took some minutes to compose myself and tried to finish.  It hurt too much.  I HATE not finishing races, but I would do more harm than good with this.  Thanks to Matt, I was able to keep ice on my knee the rest of the day and hopefully speeded my recovery.

This weekend is Xterra Buffalo Creek.  I'll be doing a relay, (I still can't run or bike) with Tina and my friend, Ben Madden.  It should be fun!
